Day one on the road to a million bucks!

Published by shelxland at 9:38 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Years ago, I came across a woman on the web who was following an online program to double her way to a million dollars. Basically, she purchased an e-book that gave instructions on where to start, what to do, etc. I never bought the book, but always thought it was a pretty cool idea, something that would be fun to do with the kids and I stored the idea away for a better time. That time has come.

    Meet the Players

My name is Shelley. I am a married mom of 4 who lives in the Pacific Northwest. I am a photographer and graphic designer who loves to create adventure in my kids’ lives. However, with four kids, adventure can get expensive.  The way I (and my bank account) see it…what better adventure than one that pays us instead of us forking out the cash?

My husband, Bill, is a railroad engineer and a lot of fun. Most people ooh and ahh at his job title. We do too. We think it’s pretty cool.

Then we have Braden (16), Jake (13) Hannah (13) and Tagen (5) . People who don’t know us, always immediately ask me about my twins upon seeing Jake and Hannah’s ages. Jake and Hannah are not twins. Hannah is our foster daughter who fortunately/unfortunately is the same age as Jake. Their feelings about this vary regularly depending on who is getting on who’s nerves this week. Braden does not live with us all the time, so he gets to play when he comes to visit. And Tagen is our little fireball. He keeps the rest of us on our toes and reminds us that life is too short to be take too seriously all the time.

    The Game

So, here is our attempt. I did a search for the e-book and found it and a few other programs and many other blogs that have popped up as well and decided that we will be doing this on our own rather than following someone else’s plan. I couldn’t remember if the rules of the game allowed the player to tell people what they were doing. But since this is our game, we’re playing by our own rules. We’ve decided to tell people what we are doing. It makes it more fun. Other than that, our only rules are to have fun and double our money.

Breaking $1,000,000 down in half (roughly and with rounding) to a very small, manageable, un-overwhelming number is where we’ve chosen to start. And because I’ve also always been told that found money is lucky money, we started our journey with the goal of 24¢ by finding the money.

Tagen started us off big by finding a dime in the parking lot of the convenience store. Since then, and with the help of all kids, we’ve collected the other 14¢ in pennies over the past week.

It’s Friday today. Our goal is to double that to 48¢ by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned for what we come up with.
